HILLSIDE, NJ — Hillside firefighters responded Sunday afternoon to a fire at a two-family residence at 382 Long Avenue, where crews entered the building and conducted overhaul after quickly knocking down the fire.
UPDATE: In an on-camera interview with Jersey Alerts, Hillside Fire Department Deputy Chief Abreu said all occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived. The department’s first two engine companies quickly knocked down and extinguished the fire, he said.
Firefighters then overhauled and cleared the building. The property was being returned to the homeowners as crews wrapped up operations, according to Abreu.
Mountainside Rescue Squad personnel provided medical monitoring, hydration and wellness support to firefighters during the response.
Jersey Alerts exclusive footage shows multiple Hillside fire apparatus at the scene, police and emergency medical personnel nearby, firefighters working around the residence, ladders positioned at second-floor windows, and smoke venting from the building during operations.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday afternoon. Jersey Alerts will update this report if additional confirmed information becomes available.
